A bunch of art I’ve done and just haven’t uploaded cause most are just sketches… The first is my most recent art of my OC Respirator wearing his goggles and respirator, then another of my canine-based OCs, Batman as a Gargoyle, Jak from Jak & Daxter, My Beelzemon teasing a Demidevimon, my Enderman “Mr. E”, Shadow sitting on sonic, my persona feeding his/my pet snake, another OC named Nez and Headless Joe.

An update on Vortex! The first image is of her dead tail tip and the second image is of when it came off after a couple of baths to remove a failed shedding. She seems content enough, just a little stumpy.

The last set of images is when I went in today to handle her and thought she just looked too cute to disturb so I left her alone and instead snapped some shots.

I saved a snake today—

First image: The state of the cage it had been living in. Those are two skins, meaning it hasn’t been cleaned out for about 2-4 months.

Well technically I saved it two weeks ago. Someone had gotten it from someone who didn’t want it, but they knew nothing about snakes and never looked into how to care for one, so after so many months of neglect and this persons mother hunting around, asking if people wanted a snake; the story finally came to my parents. They went away for the weekend on a caravan holiday and came back to tell me the tale of this neglected reptile. My heart cried out for this poor thing, it was being kept in a starter vivarium with no heat mat and was just shoved under a radiator to keep it warm. Good enough right? Wrong. You can’t keep a snake in a viv that’s shoved under a heater, it just doesn’t work that way. So, two weeks down the line of me first saying- within seconds of this sad story- Yes, I’ll save it. I don’t care if we don’t have the supplies, I’m going to save this thing. Last weekend I got a new starter viv with heat-mat, caves and thermostat all included for only £25 and the woman was so nice to deal with.

Around 4:30pm Today (Saturday the 30th of March) this snake finally arrived in my household and instantly I fell in love. Sure I knew I would love it when it got here, but it is a very gorgeous snake (either a Anery or Ghost Corn) and to see the state of it’s cage held in my hands.. Was atrocious. I couldn’t believe it, the snake hadn’t been cleaned out for two shed cycles (they were in the cage with it), and it’s water bowl was black inside with how dirty it was. I was expecting to get striked at or hissed, but this little sweetheart made no notion to even do such a thing. I picked it up and handled it very carefully, looking for any mites (though I don’t think it has any, going to book it into the vets to get it checked over and hopefully sexed this week) and admiring it’s markings. This beautiful thing had been so neglected and I can’t see why anyone would do this to it.. It is the sweetest thing. I put it in it’s new clean (heated) vivarium and it went into one of its caves. Silly thing went into the smallest cave. I’d had some pinkies out (because it’s all we have, my snake isn’t big enough for fluffs yet, but this one is! Going to buy some tomorrow) and ended up speeding the process by putting them in hot water, I couldn’t leave feeding it until tomorrow because it hadn’t been fed for over two weeks already. A little later I went in to check on it and it was having a drink, sweet, so it’s not at all bothered by the new move, its probably very happy now. Finally came feeding time; I opened the cage, once again prepared to get bitten but upon moving the cave and gently grabbing the snake, once again no such hostility came from this cutie. I got it into its new feeding container (it used to just have food dropped into its cage and left to eat it in its own time) and let it settle, when feeding finally came the snake showed almost no interest, I was a little worried but came to the conclusion this isn’t how it’s used to being fed, so holding the food still after poking it to make it realise food was available, it finally ate the two pinkies. Once I was sure it was settled I opened the container back up and picked the snake up to place it back inside it’s new home; once again expecting to get struck at or even a hiss, but no such thing came. When I placed it back into its viv, it went straight under the big cave (where the heat mat is) and settled down to sleep off it’s meal.

I know this might sound stupid but it feels like the snake knew I was helping it, that this was a safe place, a new caring home and it’s in great hands now. And I’m so happy I could save this adorable creature and give it the love it so rightly deserves.

TL;DR: I saved a snake, it came to me today, it’s a lovely thing. Not as vicious as I thought it would be.
